What to expect.

You will have the option to discuss the specifics and talk about your vision for your session. This will allow me to get to know you and give me a better idea of what you are looking for.  It is important to book as soon as possible to give yourself an adequate amount of time to prepare. Technically, the process is simple, but your lifestyle photos are going to last a lifetime, so it is only logical to take time to consider what you might want from your session.

Our session will range from one to three hours at a time and location we decide on. Upon arrival we can address any last minute questions and then start the shoot. We will plan to experiment with many poses and spots within our chosen location. After your session, I will begin the photo editing process, including setting up your online gallery. This process generally takes 7-10 days. Once your gallery is complete, I will contact you via email with your link and password.

How to prepare.

Here are a few tips for making decisions for your session. Please, let me know if you would like me to help you further narrow down your list of ideas.

Coordinate.

You’ll want to narrow your color palette down to three or four colors before deciding on your outfits. You’ll want a cohesive feel without being overly matchy. The goal here is to not look like you’re in uniform, but rather make outfit selections that compliment each other. Most families start with the mother's outfit and build the rest of the families ensemble around that.

Color pops.

Keep things mainly neutral with pops of color. For example choose mainly grays, browns, creams, or ivories- with pops of rust, greens, or navy. Steer clear of brights or neon as they do not photograph well and often cast unflattering colors on skin tones.

Texture vs pattern.

Patterns are beautiful. We all love patterns, but it can be difficult to coordinate a variety of patterns. Instead, choose a single pattern and mix in various textures. Knits, leathers and lace are just a few examples of subtle pattern within texture.

Be comfy.

It is important to consider colors and textures when choosing what to wear for a family session, but the most important tip I can offer is to be sure that everyone is comfortable. You and your family are going to feel the most at ease if you are comfortable in your clothing. Choose to be stylish and practical at the same time!

Getting dressed.

Start planning the outfits for your session as soon as you book, but get dressed at the last possible second-just in case!

Be rested.

Be sure to allow for an early evening the night before your photo shoot. A good nights sleep makes for happier children and adults!

Meals & snacks.

It is important that everyone eats a good meal before you session. It is tough to smile with an empty stomach, this is especially true for small children and fathers! Be sure to bring granola bars, carrot sticks or something else easy and clean to snack on.

Arrive early.

Arrive 10-15 minutes early to give yourself plenty of time to deal with any last minute issues. This will also give you time for a last minute look over or bathroom break.

Have fun!

You and your family are creating memories that will last a lifetime. It is easy to focus on the end result, but be sure to encourage everyone to be in the moment and enjoy themselves!
